A writer writes ... always.

I'm not at all a "virtual" guy.

My disdain for any kind of relating or communicating that doesn't involve eye-to-eye or physical contact is well documented. I'm an old-fashioned guy, a technical troglodyte with a deference for stationery and heartfelt, hand-written letters over e-cards and texting (go ahead and say it ... OMG!). But, I've always been a firm believer in the power of daily disciplines.

It's probably because I understand the concept of entropy: that all things are in a constant, unrelenting state of decay (minds, creativity, morals, human government, our mortal shell, this planet). Having a grasp of Newton's First Law of Motion [an object in motion will remain in motion on its course unless acted upon by an unbalanced outside force], the conclusion I am led to is that, though nothing can ever remain the way it was (or the way you think it should be), dadgumit, you can push against it instead of griping about it. So nebulous is the reason for my becoming a blogger.

I will blog for the same reason I workout, read good books, try to cook things I've never even eaten before, play Scrabble and not resort to using proper nouns I culled from listening intently to the dialogue from the bar scene in Star Wars: it sharpens me; it keeps me accountable; it enriches my life and, heck, maybe the lives of others.

I mean, how can I continue to harangue my mother with Sudoku books and ginko biloba every time she forgets the name of that '70s actress she should know if I'm not going to take the same measures to stir up the synapses in my own melon. This seemed like the proper forum.

So here's the disclaimer. By "daily" I mean on a fairly regular basis, not "daily" as in a newspaper. Just so you know, I've done most of my work for magazines. By magazines I mean the kind that don't have a forum for griping to the editor. Enjoy.
